Desperance (Monday update)

I have just called the RVI again and they tell me that [livejournal.com profile] desperance will be going back into theatre to have the infection washed out again so, contrary to expectations he won't be returning home today.

Update 8:30pm: [livejournal.com profile] desperance has been back to the theatre and he's "absolutely fine" now, but they will probably keep him in till Wednesday. The main problem is that he's run out of reading material, though someone has been dispatched to his house to bring back further supplies. None of the books in Ward 20 is suitable, it seems!

Oh hellfire and bloody damnation. I was hoping to hear he was home. Well, soon, and better to get it all sorted in the one visit than come home and have it all go awry again. Please pass on love and best wishes from me and mine. Jules

You know, if only they did an actual theatre production while he was there having the operation it might be worth the trouble.

Best wishes to him, hope he's all fixed up very soon.

Your wish is our command, m'lady: actual theatre production.

Well, crap.

Could you pass on best wishes from me?

Sorry to hear that more work was needed, hope that this really does the trick this time. Do please pass on our love and best wishes - we are thinking of him (and going "ouch"!)

I've not long been back from the RVI - having stupidly taken the car into town on a match night, then trawling the city for a parking space, I got there with 15 minutes of visiting time left...

We did stretch it to three-quarters of an hour, though. He is reduced to Terry Brooks (insert rofl here), but fresh supplies of bookage will arrive tomorrow. His notes say he's due to be discharged Weds or Thurs, depending on whether the nurse read the doctor's handwriting correctly. I am also advised that morphine is good.

I have to remember to sign these things...

well yes, that helps. But what really helps the rest of us is knowing there are folk like you (collectively) within useful distance supplying books, chocolate, whatever.

As younger son observed when I was passing on the latest news, 'it's not like we can really pop up and visit (from here in the Cotswolds). Damn.'

So, thanks, all. Jules

I always see these way too late - thank you for keeping us posted. If you see him again before he comes home, say "get well" and so on.

[identity profile] shewhomust.livejournal.com 2008-11-04 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
You know the remedy for that, Simon!

Terry Brooks? Wow, is this some sort of penance meant to cleanse his body and soul from further infection by a sort of painful scourging?

Glad to hear everything is fine now, best wishes for a prompt return to normal.

So sorry to hear about this - I hope he's on the mend soon! Please send love from me (and the Pod).

Do pass on my love and best wishes to Chaz please, durham rambler, I've been following his misadventures on LJ. I hope he gets out tomorrow, before he runs out of books again.

Very concerned to hear of [livejournal.com profile] desperance's infected arm, and glad to learn that his op went well. Please pass on to him my very best wishes for his speedy recovery. And many thanks to you for keeping his LJ friends informed.

Terry Brooks, forsooth!

Thank you for the updates. Please give Chaz our love and hopes that he'll be home soon.

Gail and I visited this afternoon

It takes a moment to spot him of course, without the trademark baseball cap which has not been worn now for five days.

Basically: progressing nicely. There may or may not be a further operation to flush away any remaining infection, so just when he will leave hospital is not yet clear.

The book supply is back up to strength, including a couple by [livejournal.com profile] matociquala.

Thoughts of bringing in the laptop of heavenly desire were abandoned when the health risk was realised; and this was before I told him that some computer keyboards are five times dirtier than a toilet seat (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7377002.stm)...

Please give give Chaz my and David's best wishes for a full recovery. Tell him not to overdo things, and let the cats take the strain! :D

On his way home

[identity profile] durham-rambler.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
A lunchtime phone call from [livejournal.com profile] desperance to say he'll be on his way home just as fast as they can deliver one final prescription to him (4½ hours so far and counting...). I'll leave the man himself to take up the story from this point on.
