Today is my sixtieth birthday: we had a splendid party yesterday which I styled the "end of the fifties" party, which has already been alluded to by
shewhomust and
desperance. I said in the invitation that the party would be a day early as I would be too busy collecting my bus pass to celebrate on the day.
To prove these were not just idle words, look to the right.
As
shewhomust has already described, this was preceded by an orgy of cleaning the house has not seen since the days when it was owned by the Salvation Army. In a reversal of the usual arrangement, we said we would provide the drink if guests brought food. As a result, we got some delicious dishes which kept us well fed, and which will continue to do so for many days to come.
The party itself seemed to go well, though others can say better than I. The feedback has been good, and a highlight was a poem that Valerie Laws composed for the occasion. She's promised to email it over, and when she does I will post it here.
